Founder / Brewmaster

Eric Moss

A craftsman at heart, Eric is Montauk Brewing Company's official Brewmaster. After learning the art of brewing while receiving his degree in Finance from University of Colorado at Boulder, Eric returned to the East End where he explores a wide variety of activities. Working with his hands and problem solving is where Eric feels at home - whether it's building his own sailboat or crafting a uniquely styled beer, Eric will always be searching for ways to flex his creativity.

Eric loves making and drinking light-colored IPA's that are packed with aromatic hops, but aren't too bitter or malty. Wave Chaser IPA is his favorite beer made to date.

Moss spends his time at the brewery overseeing daily operations, testing beer during the production process, and sampling the delicious brews he creates.  When Moss is not in the red brew barn, you can find him and his wife, Cat with their two little girls, Mackenzie & Rowan -  taking adorable Instagram photos.

about

Wave Chaser IPA

Wave Chaser IPA was created over the course of 9 months of experimenting with hop varieties. Every few weeks, Montauk's brewmaster Eric Moss would release a new trial version of the IPA.

We used our Montauk, NY tap room all summer and fall to gauge response from fans. The recipe was tweaked many times until finally landing on the winner that is now Wave Chaser IPA.

Moss tells us he added 10% flaked oats to the grain so this IPA is a little creamier and has a better mouthfeel. The flaked oats also adds that nice haze that we love.

Eric Moss told us that like all beers he creates for Montauk Brewing Company, "he likes to make beer that he enjoys drinking and that our fans enjoy drinking."

"Really light colored IPA's that aren't too malty," is part of the inspiration behind Wave Chaser IPA. The hop varieties used in Wave Chaser IPA are El Dorado, Azacca and Columbus & Chinook. The El Dorado and Azacca hops provide an authentic tropical fruit and citrus aroma. The Columbus hops play a minor role but definitely bring in more piney and resinous flavors to balance it out.

We love Wave Chaser IPA because at 6.4% ABV, it's not too high in alcohol - meaning you can enjoy more of them!

And last but not least...

Moss' Favorite Color: Purple.
